Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has given the latest on three players whosuffered injuries during the thrilling 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night.
It was an entertaining contest at St James’ Park as the visiting team took a two-goal lead through Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike and looked completely comfortable as Anthony Gordon was shown a red card for the Magpies.
However, Newcastle rallied impressively, with Bruno Guimaraes giving them hope as he nodded in their first and then substitute William Osula scored a late equaliser.
It was an even more unlikely hero that won the game, though, as 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha finished off a brilliant move to put the visitors back ahead in injury time.
Not only was it a painful loss but it was a bruising night for Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Fabian Schar, who all suffered injuries.

All three were forced off in the second half, with Howe explaining what he knew of the issues after the match.
‘To come away with nothing and injuries and suspensions and concussions, it’s a pretty bad day,’ Howe told Sky Sports of a painful evening.

‘Sandro’s doesn’t look good, he was in quite a bit of pain. I don’t know the full extent of his or Joelinton’s injury, but they both look threatening for us in the essence that they could be out for a while.
‘Of course Ants [Gordon] is going to be suspended which is a big blow for us. Just reflecting on that, I thought there was no intent. People say it looks bad, I haven’t seen it again, I’ve seen a quick image of it, I thought he was trying to pull out of the tackle.’
He added to the BBC: ‘I don’t know with Joe and Sandro, it doesn’t look good when a player comes off, especially because both looked in a little bit of pain, they’d be huge blow for us if they’re not available. Anthony will be suspended and Fabian had concussion, so not good.’
Gordon will now be suspended for three games due to the straight red card, which leaves Howe very short up front as Alexander Isak remains unavailable for selection.

Newcastle chiefs spoke to Isak at his home on Monday as they try and convince him to stay at the club, despite currently refusing to play as he tries to force through a move to Liverpool.
There is the possibility of a new contract for the 25-year-old if he agrees to commit his future to the club for at least this season.
The Magpies have been trying to bring in new forwards but have failed to do so this summer so far, missing out on the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro.
They have also made moves for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, but have been unsuccessful in those pursuits as well.
Newcastle will hope to do some business before the transfer window closes on Monday September 1 and are next in action at Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
