As roster cuts continue, the latest player looking for a new home is Jacob Saylors, released by the Detroit Lions. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson was the first to report the move.
During his brief stint in Detroit, Saylors flashed potential, finishing the preseason with 33 carries for 112 yards.
Still, making the 53-man roster was always going to be a steep climb for the former UFL rushing leader. Veterans Craig Reynolds and second-year back Sione Vaki are the leading candidates to complement the backfield duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.
While the Lions continue sorting out their roster, it remains possible the team brings Saylors back via the practice squad.
Before joining Detroit, Saylors had short stints with the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns.
His most productive stretch came in 2024 with the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks, where he earned All-UFL Team honors. The 5-foot-10 running back led the league in rushing yards (461) and points (54).
