ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions are parting ways with another recent third-round pick and more defensive line depth as cuts continues to come in.
Brodric Martin will head to waivers after failing to make the initial 53-man roster. The Lions are also cutting veteran defensive lineman Myles Adams.
Martin was a top-100 pick in the 2023 draft out of Western Kentucky by way of Northern Alabama. He played in five games, starting once, notching four tackles and no quarterback hits during his time in Detroit. That said, there is no surprise to seeing his name hit the wire, with Martin routinely repping at the bottom of the rotation from the start of training camp until last week’s end.
The 26-year-old had some brighter moments in the preseason, heading into last weekend’s exhibition finale as the top-rated pass rusher at his position, per Pro Football Focus. Martin’s size is something that can’t be taught, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 326 pounds. But, now, Martin joins quarterback Hendon Hooker as 2023 third-round picks to be let go ahead of their third season.
Adams came over late last season, with the Lions signing him off of Seattle’s practice squad while dealing with all of their defensive injuries. He posted one sack and two quarterback hits during his four game appearances in Detroit last season.
Lions coach Dan Campbell mentioned Adams as someone who had been enjoying a strong camp a couple of times in recent weeks. The 27-year-old spent the first four years of his career with the Seahawks, where he appeared in 26 games as a depth piece for the defensive trenches.
On the defensive line, the Lions have let go of Martin, Adams, Nate Lynn and Mitchell Agude. Click here to keep up with all of the moves being reported ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s roster deadline.
