The Los Angeles Rams played their final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns this past weekend, losing 17-19. Though heading into the regular season with a loss, the Rams got to see action from their first selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Tight end Terrance Ferguson made his preseason debut after missing the first two preseason games due to a groin injury. In his debut, Ferguson caught 2 receptions for 48 yards, including a 33-yard reception in the second quarter.
Ferguson impressed with the little action he saw, being targeted 3 times by the waived Dresser Winn.
Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked his thoughts about the rookie tight end’s preseason debut, delivering a three-word response.
“It was good,” McVay said. “I thought he did a really nice job. I think he did a good job in the run game. I think he can finish a little bit better on some of those things and he knows that. We talked about it because I got a lot of confidence in him not to be just a receiving tight end, but a complete tight end.”
“And in the receiving stuff, I thought it was cool… He’s just kind of got a good feel, good tempo to his game. I thought he did well.”

In the only preseason game of his career so far, Terrance Ferguson recorded an 81.1 grade from Pro Football Focus, with a 90.9 receiving grade in the preseason.
Ferguson spoke to reporters after the game to give his thoughts after making his preseason debut.
“It felt really good, you know, to be out there with the guys again,” the tight end from Oregon said. “To be able to play football, it’s such a blessing to be out there whenever you are. So, it felt really good to be back.”
Ferguson returned to practice from his groin injury last week and was limited, but said that he felt great on the field against the Browns.
With two weeks until the start of the new season, the tight end can heal and be 100% for his rookie year.
Entering The Regular Season

The Los Angeles Rams selected Terrance Ferguson with the 46th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ferguson was a lock to be on the 53-man roster, but his chances of playing are questionable with 4 tight ends in the depth chart.
Tyler Higbee will be the main tight end for the Rams entering the 25-26 season. Colby Parkinson is entering his second season of his three-year, $22.5 million contract with the Rams. Davis Allen is entering his third year in the league.
All these tight ends have experience with how Sean McVay likes to run the offense; Ferguson will have to catch up in any way he can before the start of the season to get some snaps in his rookie season.
His preseason debut showed what he can offer the Rams, but he will need to continue to progress in the weeks leading up to the season opener.
