Many teams around the NFL have already begun trimming their rosters to 53 players. The deadline to do so is 3:00 PM CST tomorrow, so there are currently multiple players hitting free agency in hopes of being picked up by another team. The Green Bay Packers, though, are waiting right up until the deadline, it seems, as they have announced just one roster cut so far.
That was wide receiver Kawaan Baker, who was released following Green Bay’s trade for three-time Super Bowl champion offensive lineman Darian Kinnard.
Within the next 20 hours, there will be literally dozens of players released from the Packers’ 90-man roster as they trim it to 53. One name to keep an eye on during this time is injured safety Omar Brown, who recently received so very good news from doctors.

Brown was a member of Green Bay’s practice squad in 2024, but was promoted to the active roster twice last season. He did not, however, see much playing time. He played just eight defensive snaps and 16 special teams snaps in that time.
However, Brown drew the attention of Packers fans during the team’s annual Family Night scrimmage by recording three interceptions. Due to this performance, many were hoping he would be able to make Green Bay’s 53-man roster this season.
But Brown suffered a terrible injury in the Packers’ second preseason game and needed to be hosipitalized with a lung issue. He remained in the hospital in Indianapolis after the team left for home in Green Bay because the doctors did not feel comfortable releasing him.
Of course, he did not play in the final preseason game either.
And as the 53-man roster deadline draws near, many fans wondered if he would be able to be included or if he would be released with an injury settlement or placed on an injured list.
As it turns out, the Packers may be able to keep him rostered after all:
After spending nearly a week in an Indianapolis hospital because of a lung injury, safety Omar Brown could be cleared to play “very soon,” per a source.
The Packers have not made any decision about him as it pertains to the roster, IR or waviers with a practice squad return.

As one can see from the post above, Brown will soon to be cleared to play. He spent nearly a week in the hospital.
If the Packers find out Brown will be available for Week One, he could sneak onto the 53-man roster as safety and special teams depth.
