"It's great," Macdonald said. "You need reps, especially at linebacker. He's going to do everything he possibly can to get the most out of those mental reps before he can go full speed, and we're going to have a plan for it. It's not ideal, but we're fortunate that it's not more serious and he's available to us. So in a way, we're blessed that we're going to possibly have him next week, and we're not going to be losing him long term, which would have been scary."
Asked about Knight potentially playing in the game, Macdonald said, "I'd say everything's on the table from he might not be ready to he could possibly play the whole game or maybe we're subbing him out a little bit."
Also working his way towards a full workload next week is rookie receiver Tory Horton, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the second preseason game.
"He hasn't practiced (in) full, ramping up in to next week," Macdonald said. "He's projected to practice full sometime next week, so we'll play it by ear going into the game."
In a positive bit of injury news, Macdonald said receiver Jake Bobo, who is in the concussion protocol after a scary collision in Saturday's preseason game, is "doing great. He's in the protocol right now. We'll see how it goes, but considering the way it looked, watching the play in person, we're really fortunate.
Also in the concussion protocol is defensive lineman Mike Morris, who did not play Saturday but did participate in Thursday's joint practice. "He's in the concussion protocol, so we'll see how it goes into next week."
On Christian Haynes, who is dealing with a pectoral injury, Macdonald said, "He's still working through the pec. We'll get the timetable here—we're still working through how long it's going to be."
Veteran defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins remains on the non-football injury list due to a back injury, and Macdonald made it sound like his return is still a little ways away,
"He hasn't done intense football workouts yet," Macdonald said. "That's probably the best I can give you in terms of a timetable. It's not like season ending or anything right now."
