Chelsea have begun the season in decent fashion, collecting four points from our first two games, but amid concerns over the workload that has been placed this young squad over the past year, it may be slightly worrying that we’re collecting a few new injuries as well.
Levi Colwill went down with an ACL on the first day of the shortened preseason programme, Tosin missed the first game as precaution, and now we’re also waiting — “still waiting”, as per [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2025/08/25/hijacking-high-jinks-scramble-for-attackers-premier-league/) — to find out the extent of Cole Palmer’s groin concern, which forced him to miss Friday’s game. The fact that he was already pushing through discomfort to play the weekend prior is not exactly great news either. Groin injuries can easily turn into long-term nagging problems if not taken care of properly at the start.
In better news, the Telegraph also report that “there is optimism” that Roméo Lavia could be back after the international break, which is coming up after next weekend’s short trip down the road to Craven Cottage. Lavia missed almost all of 2023-24 and continued to deal with hamstring strains throughout much of last season as well. He played in the first four games at the Club World Cup before missing the rest of the tournament with another injury. When fit, he’s been a key player in certain games, but he’s not been fit much since arriving for a sizeable chunk of cash from Southampton two years ago.
The report makes no mention of Benoît Badiashile, who seems to be behind Lavia in terms of his own rehab.
