Leeds United ‘considering’ Manchester United transfer opportunity as £17m claim made

There is now less than a week of the summer transfer window remaining as Leeds United look to make last minute changes to their squad for the 2025/26 season.

James Justin has become the 10th new signing of the summer transfer window. The full-back has joined from Leicester City in a deal worth an initial £8 million, rising to £10 million.

He joins the likes of Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lucas Perri through the door at Elland Road. Leeds are back in action tonight as they take on Sheffield Wednesday in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The game may come too early for Justin to make his debut, but he could feature in the weekend’s Premier League clash against Newcastle.

While preparations for the game will be happening, in the background there is also work going on in relation to potential comings and goings. With that in mind, here is a look at a couple of the latest transfer stories doing the rounds.

Man United man ‘targeted’

Leeds United are reportedly one of the clubs weighing up a move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. MOT Leeds News claim that the whites are considering an ambitious move for the England man as they look to strengthen their midfield options.

There is uncertainty over the player’s future at Old Trafford with him an unused substitute in the club’s opening two games so far this season.

LeedsLive says : "Bringing someone like Mainoo to the club would be a big signing for Leeds as they look to build a squad for the Premier League.

"A loan deal would be ideal for the Whites, but given that Mainoo has just two years remaining on his current contract, it might be a deal that Man United are unwilling to do."

Transfer blow

Leeds have been handed a transfer blow over their pursuit of Christantus Uche from Getafe, with Wolves reportedly now in pole position for the player.

Spanish outlet AS claim that Wolves will complete a deal for a fee of around €20 million (£17.3m).

The 22-year-old provided an assist for Getafe in their 2-0 win over Celta Vigo in their season opener last week.

LeedsLive says : "Despite the claims of a deal being close, Uche was included in Getafe’s starting lineup for their La Liga clash against Sevilla on Monday night. That suggests that a deal is not a close as being reported, possibly giving Leeds hope of being able to hijack a move."
