David Moyes could give several players their first starts of the season as Everton face Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup. The Blues boss will want to guard against complacency and ensure the first cup match at Hill Dickinson Stadium does not become a problematic one.

Even with a small squad, however, he should be able to make changes to the team that defeated Brighton on Sunday.

It could be an opportunity for Mark Travers to make his competitive debut since signing from Bournemouth to act as deputy to Jordan Pickford. Travers was on the bench at the weekend, while fellow new goalkeeper Tom King was not named in the matchday squad.

Adam Aznou returned to training on Friday and was an unused substitute in the Brighton win. With Everton desperate for support at full-back the match may be a welcome opportunity for him to gain experience and confidence.

Other players who could benefit from the fixture include Harrison Armstrong, who earned his first senior start for the club in this competition last season.

The 18-year-old suffered a minor injury to disrupt his preparations for the campaign but made it onto the pitch in the final minutes against Brighton.

Everton are yet to decide on whether Armstrong will stay with the squad or be offered the opportunity to go on loan - which could well be the outcome for Youssef Chermiti, who has dropped behind Thierno Barry following the striker’s arrival from Villarreal.

Moyes will not have the resources to completely change his XI and will likely want to ensure Everton build momentum. But youngsters Justin Clarke and Isaac Heath could have the opportunity to step up from the Under-21s.

Both wingers featured heavily in pre-season and they both made attacking contributions as the U21s lost 4-3 to Fulham on Friday. Tyler Onyango, who has been named in the Premier League matchday squads, could also get a chance.
