Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to keep Newcastle United transfer target Jorgen Strand Larsen this summer.
On Monday, Newcastle saw a £50million offer for Strand Larsen rejected by Wolves. The Norway international scored 14 Premier League goals for the Molineux club last season and is of interest to Eddie Howe.
Newcastle desperately need a striker, too. While Alexander Isak increasingly looks as if he will stay at the club this summer, the options behind the wantaway Swede look bleak for a team competing in the Champions League.
Naturally, Wolves do not want to sell Strand Larsen. They are not blessed with options themselves and, on early evidence at least, they will be scrapping for Premier League survival again this season.
Now, they are taking steps to try and keep the 25-year-old out of Newcastle’s clutches.

Wolves offer Jorgen Strand Larsen a new contract
According to The Daily Telegraph, Wolves plan to offer the forward a new contract already, as they attempt to make the next step towards keeping him happy.
Strand Larsen joined Wolves on loan from Celta Vigo – where he was once managed by former Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez – last season.
That move became a permanent arrangement in July and the forward signed a four-year deal.

However, they now want to improve his terms to reflect the growing interest in the player.
The report adds that sources suggest it would take as much as £75million for Wolves to consider selling the Newcastle target.
Paying that would break Newcastle’s transfer record.
Jorgen Strand Larsen the big winner from Newcastle United interest
Strand Larsen could get a new contract weeks after signing one, which is certainly an interesting twist.
In that event, the player looks the big winner here. To be rewarded so quickly after signing a contract because other clubs are interested in you is good work if you can get it.
Newcastle view Strand Larsen as Callum Wilson’s replacement rather than Isak’s. With that in mind, it’s hard to see a way in which they would spend such huge money.
If Isak were to leave, then perhaps things could change.
Speaking on Monday, Howe revealed that he had nothing to update supporters about in regard to Strand Larsen as he has been busy coaching the team.
