**West Ham** chairman [David Sullivan](https://www.claretandhugh.info/david-sullivan-bio/) is about to have a ‘hold my beer’ moment as he looks to take full control of Hammers [transfers](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/). With West Ham head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay seemingly being thrown under the bus by the Irons chairman, Sullivan has made it clear that he is in charge.
It’s quite something to witness the bravado and cockiness of this move because it doesn’t seem to have entered the owners head that he won’t be able to rescue the precarious transfer situation. West Ham have left it far too late in the window to sign players and, by my reckoning, need a central defender, two midfielders and a striker. Somehow our major shareholder believes he’s going to parachute in and get the necessary deals completed in the last week of the transfer window.
Suffice to say, I don’t share his confidence. I’m also gobsmacked that he can view the current predicament with such detachment, as if he has played no part in West Ham’s struggles. Make no mistake about it, the 76-year-old club owner is front and centre of everything and whilst Macaulay has been involved in deals, Sullivan has certainly been setting the budget at the very least.
The Hammers chairman still believes much of the club’s woes are because he appointed Tim Steidten as director of football. But rather than sacking Steidten and appointing a different DOF, Sully believes he can do a better job himself. Well, with a week left until deadline day, we’re about to find out.
