Leeds United will arguably have one eye on Newcastle as they face Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
Hillsborough will host Daniel Farke’s team on 26 August in the second round of the Carabao Cup, but their primary focus will undoubtedly be surviving Premier League relegation.
Leeds’ 5-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates on 23 August surely would have given the German manager a reality check about the task at hand.
Newcastle will travel to Elland Road 30 August, just before the international break, and their 3-2 defeat against Liverpool on 25 August at St James’ Park left Eddie Howe with several headaches.

Howe has admitted that the 24-year-old’s absence will be a “big blow” for the Magpies as he will now miss the trip to Elland Road after serious foul play.
The Newcastle manager also admitted that Tonali and Joelinton’s knocks don’t look good, with both expected to be out for a while.
Gordon is suspended for the next three domestic matches.
Tonali injured his shoulder against Liverpool and was replaced just after the hour mark.
Joelinton looked in tears as he walked off the pitch in the 76th minute.
Speaking post-match at St James’ Park, the Englishman said: “Sandro’s doesn’t look good, he was in quite a bit of pain. I don’t know the full extent of his or Joelinton’s injury, but they both look threatening for us in the essence that they could be out for a while.
“Of course, Ants [Gordon] is going to be suspended, which is a big blow for us. Just reflecting on that, I thought there was no intent. People say it looks bad. I haven’t seen it again. I’ve seen a quick image of it. I thought he was trying to pull out of the tackle.
“I don’t know with Joe and Sandro, it doesn’t look good when a player comes off, especially because both looked in a little bit of pain, they’d be huge blow for us if they’re not available. Anthony will be suspended and Fabian had concussion, so not good.”

Elland Road faithful encouraged with Newcastle record
Leeds picked up three crucial points against Everton on the opening day of the 2025/26 campaign, setting the foundations for their survival.
However, fans will be concerned about their Premier League prospects after what they saw at the Emirates, and the Whites must bounce back quickly.
The last time the West Yorkshire outfit faced Newcastle was back in May 2023 at Elland Road, which ended in a 2-2 draw, and the Peacocks have lost just once in their last six meetings.
Leeds’ home form may be crucial to Premier League survival, and supporters in LS11 will certainly be fully behind their team and manager, who will definitely be buoyed by the fact that the Magpies could potentially arrive in West Yorkshire without three key players, including Gordon, who was once described as “unbelievable” by Bruno Guimaraes.
