Alexander Isak
Liverpool ‘will attack’ to seal a late move to sign Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Despite not spending much money in the last two transfer windows, the Reds won the Premier League title under Arne Slot last term. However, they have been making wholesale changes to their squad this summer.
Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Hugo Ekitike have joined; moreover, Giorgi Mamardashvili has also arrived this summer, but his move was sealed last year.
On the other hand, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Darwin Núñez, and Luis Diaz have left the club, while Diogo Jota unfortunately died in a car crash.
Now, on his YouTube channel, Romano states that Liverpool remain keen on signing a new striker before next week’s transfer deadline, and Isak is the priority target.
The player is desperate to leave St James’ Park to join the Merseyside club and has been refusing to train with the squad to force a move. However, the Magpies don’t want to let him leave and are hoping that he will return to the team training following the Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Monday night.
However, Liverpool ‘will attack’ to lure Isak to Anfield and are ‘prepared to pay’ big to get the deal done late in this window.
Isak to Liverpool
Romano said:
“Newcastle, internally, hope that this week after the game Isak can return to training. Newcastle really hope that. Internally they have this feeling that they want to convince Isak to be back in training after the game on Monday.
“Liverpool remain in their position – they want Isak, they will attack for Isak, but it will depend on Newcastle. This story completely depends on Newcastle. Isak wants Liverpool and Liverpool are prepared to pay, but Newcastle are the ones who decide and Newcastle will try their best to keep the player.”
Isak still has three years left in his current contract, so the Tyneside club are in no rush to cash-in on him. However, they want in excess of £150m if they are forced to let him leave.
Liverpool have found themselves thin in numbers in the striker position, so they need a new striker as the fixture schedule will become congested from next month when the Champions League will kick off.
Isak, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is a striker by trait but is also comfortable on the left flank. He has been one of the consistent strikers in the Premier League in recent years, so he would be a great coup for Liverpool should they eventually manage to secure his service before the 1st September deadline.
