Coventry City are planning a shock move for England International and Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell before the window closes, according to Si Philips.
Coventry City are preparing for another tilt at the Championship play-offs in 2025/26, eager to go one better after last season’s painful near-miss. Under Frank Lampard’s leadership, the Sky Blues climbed the table with real momentum, finishing 5th and underlining both progress and ambition.
Their journey ended in heartbreak with a tense play-off defeat to Sunderland, but belief remains high that this could finally be the season promotion to the Premier League becomes reality. At the CBS Arena, recruitment is now centre stage, with new signings seen as vital to strengthening Lampard’s squad for the battles ahead.

So far, three additions have joined the ranks, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden the only one to arrive for a fee. Even so, Coventry have both the means and the determination to continue investing as they chase their Premier League dream.
The latest name linked with a move to the Sky Blues would suggest they want that dream to be a reality. According to Si Philips, Coventry City are plotting a move for Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell.

Lampard is pushing to be reunited with the England International. Chelsea have been looking to sell Chilwell for some time, but have had no luck in that regard, meaning he could leave on loan again this summer.
Chelsea could also look to terminate his contract, which would allow Coventry City to sign him after the window closes.

Ben Chilwell would be a real statement signing for Coventry City
Whether a deal can be done for Chilwell or not remains to be seen. However, for Lampard to be looking at players of his calibre can only be a good sign for Coventry City.

With his calibre in the game, it is obvious that Lampard would have some great links. This is something he used to such success at Derby County, signing the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson on loan.
Chilwell, you feel, is another level to those former loanees. Chilwell has a host of experience in the Premier League and with England.

Coventry City have a platform they must build on
Coventry City finished last season in fine form, and they’ve carried that momentum straight into the new campaign.
The Sky Blues have taken seven points from their first three matches, netting an impressive 12 goals in their last two outings against Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.
New arrivals, such as Chilwell, add further depth and quality to Lampard’s squad. With the foundations in place, something special could be developing at Coventry.
