New York Knicks
Aug 25, 2025 3:59 PM EDT
After their first conference finals appearance in two decades, the New York Knicks are heading into the 2025-26 NBA season as one of the favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference.
So far, New York has had a busy offseason, signing players like Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson to bolster their roster. However, they may not be done as they still have some decisions to make, particularly regarding big man Mitchell Robinson.
The Florida native is entering the final year of his four-year, $60 million contract, and he is eligible for an extension. However, to this point, Robinson has yet to get a new deal and could be entering his final season with the Knicks.
On Monday, a new report surfaced that suggested the Knicks want to keep Robinson around for the long haul, but only on a team-friendly contract due to his injury concerns (h/t James L. Edwards III of The Athletic).
“I’ve gotten the sense that New York would be willing to sign Robinson to a team-friendly extension that covers them in the event he continues to get hurt,” Edwards wrote.

The Knicks Want to Keep Mitchell Robinson Around
Edwards is not the only one reporting that the Knicks want Robinson to remain with the team for the foreseeable future. Recently, Ian Begley of SNY also reported that the Knicks “want him here” and he expects a deal to get done at some point. However, Begley also said he thinks the negotiations will carry over into the season, which will be something to monitor (h/t Ian Begley of SNY).
“I can’t say that I have a strong read on whether the Knicks will or won’t extend him…just the early chatter as far as the people I’ve spoken to, Mitch Robinson [is] obviously going to be here. The Knicks want him here…from an extension perspective, I would guess that this thing goes into the season and it’s a little bit of a wait-and-see approach,” Begley said.
Robinson has spent his entire seven-year NBA career with the Knicks up to this point and has been a big part of their success when healthy. However, the 27-year-old has played in just 48 games over the past two seasons.
His future with the team is up in the air, but it is clear that the Knicks enjoy having Robinson around. He provides a lot of value on the court, and he may be more important than ever now that New York has legitimate championship aspirations. It is still fair to wonder whether Robinson’s future will truly be with the Knicks or not, but based on the latest reports, all signs are pointing to the fact that it will be as he approaches a contract year.
