From Spain: What’s happening with Christantus Uche to Wolves

On Monday, AS reported Jorge Mendes is leading Wolverhampton Wanderers’ pursuit of Getafe’s Christantus Uche.

They also stated the Premier League club will offer €16m plus €4m to Getafe, who have to sell the striker to ease their financial situation.

With Wolves making advances, Getafe president Ángel Torres said to DAZN, relayed by El Desmarque, that Uche will have a medical on Tuesday.

The La Liga club sealed a 2-1 away win over Sevilla on Monday and prior to this tie, DAZN asked Torres about Uche.

“We know we have to sell. We’re not in favour of selling the best players. I think we’re ruining La Liga; they’re forcing us to sell. We’ve had to sell Alderete, and now Uche, but, well, the rule is the rule, and we have to follow it. I’m forced to sell him; I have no other choice,” he said.

“We can strengthen our contract with a centre back, a winger, or a forward. Starting tomorrow, when he [Uche] undergoes his medical and the deal is finalised, we’ll see how the numbers go.”

A fresh report from AS explains Wolves finalised the agreement with the La Liga club on Monday afternoon to buy the 22-year-old for €20m. This, coupled with the president’s comments, indicate Uche’s move to Molineux is on right track.

However, AS say the Nigeria international’s sale to Wolves is ‘much more complicated’.

After Torres’ admission, Getafe manager José Bordalás let Uche play the full 90 minutes in their win over Sevilla.

According to the report, the frontman has a great relationship with Bordalás and is happy with his life at Getafe. Therefore, he isn’t considering leaving them for Vítor Pereira’s side this summer.

Uche isn’t represented by Mendes, who has close ties to the English club.

AS reports his agent is interested in ‘breaking the deal’ as he’s unhappy that Mendes will take a large portion of the commission.

To recap this ‘soap opera’, Wolves have an agreement to buy Uche for €20m and Getafe want to sell him to improve their finances. The player, however, is keen on staying and his agent isn’t pleased with Mendes’ involvement.
