By scoring against Newcastle United in Monday night’s Premier League game, Liverpool equalled their top-flight record for scoring in successive matches.
Arne Slot’s reign as Liverpool manager has surpassed all expectations.
When he came in as Jürgen Klopp’s replacement and then signed only Federico Chiesa in the summer before his first season in charge, it felt more likely that the team would regress slightly as they got used to playing under a new manager.
But in the end, they won a second Premier League title and a joint-record 20th top-flight crown, storming to glory in sensational style.
And after a positive start to the 2025-26 season, the records keep on coming following a dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle on Monday night.
They let a 2-0 lead slip late on, and were drawing 2-2 deep into added time in the second half, but 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha had other ideas, scoring the winner in the 100th minute with his first shot in Premier League football on his debut in the competition. He became the fourth-youngest scorer in Premier League history in the process.
With their three goals, Liverpool took their record to 93 goals in 40 Premier League games under Slot. They have scored at an average of 2.33 goals per game since Slot took over, giving the Dutchman the best goals-per-game rate of any Liverpool manager in their top-flight history.
And their first goal against Newcastle, scored in the first half by Ryan Gravenberch, means they have now scored in 36 consecutive league matches. That matches the club’s previous record, set only a few years ago across 2018-19 and 2019-20 by Klopp’s sensational side. That streak ran from March 2019 to February 2020, ultimately ended by a shock 3-0 defeat at Watford.
Liverpool Longest Scoring Runs in top-flight history
Their current run started last year; the last time they failed to score in a league game was in a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on 14 September at Anfield. They are therefore close to completing a full year of scoring in every single Premier League game.
A goal in next weekend’s home game against Arsenal would break the club record and take Liverpool a step closer to completing a full 12 months.
The Premier League record for the longest scoring run by a team is held by Arsenal, who scored in 55 consecutive games between 2001 and 2002.
Liverpool’s goals against Newcastle also extended another record: they were already on the longest run in their history of scoring in consecutive away league matches, which they set at 21 games in their 3-2 defeat at Brighton in May. They have now extended that run to 22 successive matches, two more than their previous record, which ended in April 2024.
Liverpool Longest Away Scoring Runs in Top-Flight History
Slot has got this Liverpool team scoring with incredible consistency, and reports suggest they also want to add one of the best centre-forwards on the planet, Alexander Isak, to their ranks.
That’s a frightening prospect for the competitors.
