Patrick Dorgu gives honest verdict on Rasmus Hojlund's potential exit, 'that's part of the game...'

Rasmus Hojlund is edging closer to a Manchester United exit after being left out of the first two games of the 2025/26 season.

Ruben Amorim has made it clear since the beginning of the season that Rasmus Hojlund is not part of his plans, especially following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

The Denmark international has been absent from the squad since being overlooked in United’s final pre-season friendly of the summer.

There has been plenty of speculation from Italy, with AC Milan emerging as the first club to show interest in signing Hojlund this summer. A deal didn’t materialise, but that opened the door for Serie A champions Napoli to reach a breakthrough in talks over a deal for Hojlund.

Napoli, who signed Scott McTominay from United last summer, are in the market for a striker after Romelu Lukaku suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for several months.

Patrick Dorgu reacts to imminent Rasmus Hojlund exit

The summer transfer window has entered its final week, with next Monday’s deadline beginning to loom large for United outcasts who are looking to seal deals away from Old Trafford.

That list includes Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

Hojlund joins that list after being left out of the first two games of the season, plus it sounds like he is nearing a move to Napoli. The Dane is still training with the first team, but it’s evidently clear he fell down the pecking order after Sesko signed.

Patrick Dorgu has given an interview to reflect on Hojlund’s current situation. He revealed that the 22-year-old striker is his closest friend in the United dressing room.

“Probably Ras because he’s Danish and I know him from when I was younger,” Dorgu said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I played against him when I was at Nordsjælland and he was at Copenhagen.”

When asked about Hojlund’s future, Dorgu explained that nobody is ‘secure’ at United.

“Obviously, we don’t know if he’s leaving. He is training with us and he’s part of the team.

“You need to talk to the coach about why he was not in the squad. But if he ended up leaving, that’s part of the game, everyone is not secure to be here. Obviously I would still see him with the national team.”

Dorgu may need to find a new best friend in the dressing room after this week passes.

Scott McTominay calls Hojlund

Reports suggest McTominay has called Hojlund in an attempt to lure his former United team-mate to Napoli this summer.

McTominay spent one season having Hojlund as a teammate and they developed a close friendship. Now, they have a chance to rekindle that.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, McTominay is doing all he can to convince Hojlund to move to the Serie A champions.

McTominay, 28, has been a revelation since swapping United for Napoli. Only time will tell if Hojlund can do the same.
