20yo wonderkid is 'open to leaving' Man United

Manchester United risk committing a huge blunder if they allow one of their brightest prospects to leave this summer.

According to The Athletic, Kobbie Mainoo is open to leaving Manchester United.

Head coach Ruben Amorim seems to prefer other midfielders but there is a lack of suitors with less than a week remaining in the window.

Mainoo has yet to agree on a fresh contract with United.

He is currently tied to a deal that runs until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend by a further year.

Mainoo must fight for his position at United

Amorim has stated in press conferences that Mainoo is competing with captain Bruno Fernandes for a spot in midfield.

Mainoo is fighting a lost battle if the Portuguese manager truly believes that.

Fernandes has been the talisman of this United team for almost half a decade now and remains indispensable.

He should (and deserves) to start the majority of the games but Amorim must find a way to give more game time to Mainoo.

The 20-year-old has not played a single minute, remaining an unused substitute in United’s league clashes with Arsenal and Fulham.

The England international is technically gifted, glides effortlessly with the ball, and links play with United’s attackers with remarkable maturity.

However, he still needs to improve his ability to read danger, make interceptions, and handle the dirty work in central midfield.

United may consider selling him but only at a price of around £100 million.

With the transfer window closing rapidly, it feels unlikely that any club will commit such a staggering outlay at this stage.
