Man United flop edging closer to exit

Manchester United visit League Two side Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils have endured a frustrating start to the new Premier League season, picking up just a single point from their opening two matches after a defeat against Arsenal and a draw against Fulham.

Ruben Amorim may opt to rotate his squad for the trip to Grimsby, with the tie potentially giving him the chance to give some squad players an opportunity to impress.

It had emerged, however, that one player on the periphery of Amorim’s squad could soon depart Old Trafford.

According to CaughtOffside, winger Jadon Sancho is edging closer to a move away from Manchester United.

The report claims that Man United are now actively working to source the player a move away from the club, with the end of the transfer window fast approaching.

Italian side Roma had been heavily linked with a move for the Englishman for much of the summer, with the two clubs having agreed a deal for a fee in the region of £15.5 million, the report says.

Sancho was reluctant to move to Rome, though, and the deal fell through due to huge variation in salary expectations between Sancho and the Serie A side.

German outfit Bayer Leverkusen and Spanish side Atletico Madrid have also shown interest in the winger at times over the course of the summer, but the two European giants have both snubbed the idea of a move due to the player’s financial demands.

Turkish side Besiktas have now emerged as shock contenders to land the England international, the report claims, with the Super Lig outfit benefitting from an extended transfer window.

Having joined United from Borussia Dortmund back in 2021, Sancho has since struggled to recreate the form he displayed in Germany.

He has played 83 times for the Red Devils across all competitions, but has spent time on loan at former side Dortmund and with Premier League rivals Chelsea over the past couple of years after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.
