Palace have made the offer as Marc Guehi, who Manchester City are targeting could depart Selhurst Park.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that Bayer Leverkusen have identified Akanji, who Pep Guardiola called “intelligent” as Arsenal target Piero Hincapie’s replacement: “Man City accepted a bid from Galatasaray a few days ago, that bid was £15 million, so club to club was done but Akanji but what’s needed is still the green light from the player and at the moment, Akanji’s not accepting Galatasaray.”

Romano continued: “Bayer Leverkusen are interested in the player in case Hincapie leaves and goes to Arsenal.”

“So, let’s also follow that situation.”

As a result, Arsenal could unintentionally play a leading role in Akanji’s future if they sign Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

Romano revealed that the Swiss centre-back is yet to say yes to a move to Galatasaray.

Fabrizio Romano also claimed that Hincapie is “keen” on joining Arsenal and considers their project “attractive.”

The Gunners have held talks to secure the defender’s services, and agreeing personal terms is not believed to be an issue.

However, the Italian journalist also mentioned that a move could only go over the line if Jakub Kiwior signs for Porto and Oleksandr Zinchenko leaves as well.
