Young Gun: Teshaun Murisa

_Our Young Gun series gets to know the academy youngsters kicking off their careers at the Sobha Realty Training Centre._

_Teshaun Murisa spoke to us recently, and here's how the young midfielder has been reflecting on his journey so far and his aspirations for the future._

I grew up in Barking, and my love for football started at a very young age. My parents say that when I was one, they gave me a ball and I just started kicking it around. I began playing properly at the age of four for grassroots clubs and by six, I got signed by West Ham.

Shortly after, Arsenal also scouted me, and at that time I was playing for both teams, which you were allowed to do back then. But not long after I had to choose and between the two and I picked Arsenal because I've always been a fan of the club.

If I was to describe my game, I'm someone who sits in front of the back four and likes to distribute the ball and dictate play from deep.

Getting my scholarship this summer was a proud moment for me. I felt confident going into it because I'd been performing well and playing above my age group last season. Still, having it confirmed was an amazing feeling, not just for me, but for my whole family, especially as they're all massive Arsenal fans and have supported me every step of the way.

My time at Hale End was amazing. I especially loved going to the National Finals. It was a great experience and created some unforgettable memories.

Last season we also won the 2024/2025 Premier League Cup against Chelsea. To be honest we were under pressure for large parts of the game, but we stayed strong defensively and took our chances when they came. But now as I head into full-time football, I know I'm going to have to step up my game.

One of the standout moments from last season was the FA Youth Cup run, especially starting at the Emirates against Manchester United. I didn't expect to start because I hadn't played much prior to it, but it was surreal. The whole day was built around the match.

> "We met at the stadium early in the morning, and the preparation felt like we were part of the first team."

It's been inspiring to see players like Max Dowman break into the first team. I've known Max for a long time and have played alongside him many times. He's always been one of the standout players and incredibly talented. It's great to see him performing on the big stage.

Seeing players like Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri also making an impact in the Premier League and Champions League has been really motivating. A lot of young players had opportunities last season in pre-season and in the League Cup, which gives all of us belief and hunger that we can be next up if we perform to our ability.

Next season, I'm really looking forward to playing in the UEFA Youth League. Facing teams from different countries and adapting to various styles and tactics will be a great learning experience.

I also want to win trophies, whether that's the league, the FA Youth Cup, or the Youth League, I want our group to be remembered as winners.
