'I'm told': 'Fantastic' player set to join Newcastle very soon, 'offer is imminent' - pundit

Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has not been great, but there could finally be some good news coming their way.

The Alexander Isak saga has overshadowed everything the Magpies have done this summer, and that is likely to continue right until the end of the window.

Newcastle are open to welcoming Isak back to their squad, but regardless of what happens with him, they need to sign a new striker.

A positive update about one of them has just emerged.

Newcastle’s next offer is expected to seal the Jorgen Strand Larsen deal

Jorgen Strand Larsen has been on Newcastle United’s radar for a few weeks now.

The Norway international spent last season on loan at Wolves and produced a few impressive performances. Vitor Pereira even branded him as ‘fantastic’ back in March (BBC).

TBR Football revealed that Wolves are demanding close to £70 million for Strand Larsen after Newcastle’s £50 million bid was rejected.

We confirmed that the Toon are not willing to go that far for the 25-year-old, but an improvement on their current offer is said to be on the cards.

Former Middlesbrough and Sheffield United striker Jan Aage Fjortoft has revealed that he has been told Newcastle’s next offer, which is imminent, should be enough to make Strand Larsen a new Toon star.

The pundit, who also works as an advisor to the Norway national team, tweeted about his compatriot: “Newcastle saw a £50 million bid rejected yesterday by Wolves, but I still expect this deal to go through.

“Another offer is imminent, and I’m told it should be enough to make Jorgen a Newcastle player.”

Re: Jørgen Strand Larsen

Newcastle saw a £50m bid rejected yesterday by Woves, but I still expect this deal to go through.

Another offer is imminent, and I’m told it should be enough to make Jørgen a Newcastle player.

Alan Shearer has already delivered his verdict on Jorgen Strand Larsen

If you ask Newcastle fans who their favourite player of all time is, many of them will say Alan Shearer.

The Englishman is worshipped in Tyneside, and his comments about Strand Larsen will excite Toon supporters.

Back in April, after Wolves’ 2-1 win over Ipswich Town, Shearer said on BBC: “[Strand Larsen] has got 11 goals this season, four in his past three games. Wolves have won three games and drawn one. So that tells you the answer about what they are going to do without their best player (Matheus Cunha).

“He was a nuisance. His hold-up play was excellent, and I thought his touch and his control were superb.

“Wolves didn’t play that well in the first half, but they certainly improved in the second. When you’ve got a guy who’s 6’4, you have to get balls into the box, and they certainly did that in the second half.”
