**Newcastle United came away from last night's game against Liverpool empty-handed in terms of Premier League points, but despite the sting of losing to a last-minute goal, the victory really belonged to the Toon Army.**
To a man, Newcastle were fantastic last night, and even though Anthony Gordon was dismissed for a poor challenge on the stroke of half-time, if we were doing player ratings, he'd still have scored highly, such was his impact during the 45 minutes he was on the field.
I think even through the most biased eyes, you can't deny that the red card was the right decision in the end. Initially, I had thought that Virgil Van Dijk had made the most of it, especially as it was clear that Gordon had tried to pull out of the challenge.
However, replays showed that despite his efforts to avoid the collision, there was clear and dangerous contact, as evidenced by the stud marks down the back of the defender's calf.

After the game, Anthony Gordon took to social media to issue an apology to his teammates and the fans, and indeed Virgil Van Dijk.
> “I want to sincerely apologise to my team-mates and the fans. My intentions were pure. I was just trying to create energy in the game and I mistimed the tackle.“I also want to apologise to Virgil, I would never intend to tackle somebody like this on purpose. We spoke after and he knows that.“More importantly, I’m so proud of the time I spent on the pitch and how we played tonight. The atmosphere from you all is what makes SJP so special. I love everything we stand for as a club and no more than right now.

> “I’ll be back and better, the same as every other setback I’ve ever faced. See you soon.”
Anthony Gordon will now miss the next three Newcastle games

Anthony Gordon will now miss the next three games, which are Leeds away, Wolverhampton Wanderers at home and Bournemouth away.
Hopefully, we'll have at least one new striker through the door by the Wolves game at least, potentially even Wolves' very own Jorgen Strand Larsen, which would make for quite the story.
Talks continue to convince Alexander Isak to stay for another season, so there is a possibility that he plays again at some point, but only time will tell.
