Arsenal have received a boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to Anfield after captain Martin Odegaard was named in the Norway squad for next month’s international games.

Norway are due to face Finland in a friendly a week on Thursday, before hosting Moldova in a World Cup qualifier six days later.

It had looked like Odegaard would miss those games after injuring his shoulder while playing for Arsenal last week during their 5-0 win over Leeds United.

Odegaard landed heavily on his right shoulder midway through the first half when he was tackled.

Odegaard, however, was on Tuesdau morning, named in the Norway squad for the games with Finland and Moldova.

It has confirmed the initial suggestions that Odegaard’s shoulder injury was not serious and sparked hope he could feature at Anfield on Sunday.

That would be a major boost to Arsenal as Ben White, Bukayo Saka, Christian Norgaard and Kai Havertz are all currently out injured, too.

Saka also picked up an injury last weekend during the win over Leeds. The winger injured his left hamstring when sprinting early in the second half and had to come off.

Standard Sport understands the injury is not significant, but Saka looks set to miss the game at Anfield this weekend.

Norgaard and White are doubts for the game, too, after missing the win over Leeds. Havertz is out with a knee issue that is being assessed, amid fears he may need surgery.
