Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is continuing the good work he did at Coventry City last season.
Under Lampard, Coventry were able to make it to the Championship play-offs, narrowly losing their semi-final tie against Sunderland.
The Black Cats, who have since gone on to win promotion back to the Premier League, won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.
Sunderland defender Dan Ballard actually took inspiration from Didier Drogba, Lampard’s former Chelsea teammate, scoring a last-minute header in the second leg that sent Regis Le Bris’ men to Wembley.
Fast forward to now, and Lampard is still doing a lot of good at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Coventry score 12 goals in first three Championship games under Chelsea legend Frank Lampard
Last weekend, the Sky Blues were able to thrash Chelsea’s west London rivals Queens Park Rangers at home, beating them 7-1.
Chelsea supporters were quick to laud Lampard, who helped Coventry to achieve something that has not been done in the second tier of English football for decades.
Coventry’s latest win and 5-3 victory over Derby County earlier this month mean they are the first second-tier team in England to score 12+ goals in their first three league fixtures in over 60 years.

It is one of several feats that Coventry have managed to achieve since Lampard replaced Mark Robins last November.
During the 2024/25 season, for example, Coventry beat Oxford United 3-2 at the start of March to make it eight wins in nine games. It was something that the club had not done in more than 50 years.

Frank Lampard wants to bring Ben Chilwell to Coventry
Lampard’s former club Chelsea have several unwanted players to offload between now and the end of the transfer window, and that could see one of the retired midfielder’s ex-stars reunite with him at Coventry.
It has been claimed that Lampard wants to sign Ben Chilwell before the deadline next Monday.
If that does not happen and the Blues cannot find another suitor, Chilwell’s contract could be torn up.
