'He's got to'- Rio Ferdinand sends strong Manchester United goalkeeper message

Altay Bayindir has experienced a difficult start to the season after being installed as Man United's No.1 by Ruben Amorim.

Rio Ferdinand insists Manchester United's coaching staff must work closely with Altay Bayindir on trying to improve his ability when it comes to claiming crosses.

The Turkey international has started each of United's opening two Premier League games ahead of Andre Onana, and came in for plenty of criticism after being caught out at a corner for Arsenal's winner at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.

Bayindir was bullied inside the six-yard box, meaning the ball sailed over his head from Declan Rice's corner, finding the head of Riccardo Calafiori right on the line.

Despite that, he kept his place for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Fulham, but was once again vulnerable when it came to dealing with crosses, both from open play and at set-pieces.

As a result, Ferdinand believes United's coaching staff have got to continue working with him closely on the training ground, saying they must be "smashing balls under the crossbar" to improve his ability when it comes to dealing with balls into the box.

"He needs to liven up," said the former United defender, speaking on his YouTube channel. "I know that, definitely.

"I'll tell you what I'd do, I'd be getting him out on the pitch every day and smashing balls under the crossbar. He's got to get used to it, he's got to get used to contact and work out a way.

"Make out the referee is aware by the way that there's going to be contact. Shout, get him aware to look at you so if there's any contact, like in the Fulham game, that you get the free-kick."

Ferdinand has also expressed concerns about the former Fenerbahce shot-stopper's communication, adding: "I don't think he talks enough, he doesn't make people aware of what's going on and then his decision-making in those moments hasn’t been good enough.

"I don't think he's seen enough of that, Declan Rice whipping balls right under his nose. He's not on his own by the way in lacking a bit of confidence."
