Huddersfield Town confirm Marcus McGuane injury setback ahead of Sunderland trip

Huddersfield Town boss Lee Grant has revealed that Marcus McGuane has suffered a “setback” following his recent return from a groin injury.

The summer recruit missed the first three games of the campaign, but made his Town debut as a second-half substitute in the 3-2 defeat at Blackpool.

The midfielder was also an unused substitute for the 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers, but was not included in the squad for Saturday’s 1-0 win against Stevenage.

Grant, whose side face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Carabao Cup second round, has confirmed that McGuane is now sidelined with the problem once more. He told HTTV: “With regards to Marcus, disappointingly for him, having built up his fitness, worked his way back to the squad, minutes on the pitch, he’s taken a niggle back to his groin area, which is really frustrating for him.

“We’re going to be without Marcus now for a period of time, how long that is we need to assess over the next few days, and that’s a shame for myself but more importantly for Marcus and for the group, because we were just starting to see what he could bring to us, his level in training.

“We’re going to have to wait, we’re going to have to be patient on that one, because we’d love to have him available right now. He’s had that setback, so we need to make sure that we get him right, so we can have him available to us for the long term.”

McGuane joined Town from Championship outfit Bristol City last month, penning a three-year deal with the Terriers.
