Newcastle United make surprise Alexander Isak decision ahead of Leeds United clash

Leeds United will face Newcastle United in their latest Premier League test on Saturday evening - and there is a slight chance that Alexander Isak could feature.

Isak, 25, is adamant he has played his final game for the Magpies and is determined to push through a big-money transfer to Premier League champions Liverpool. The Sweden international has not featured for Eddie Howe's side during each of their opening two matches this season.

However, that could soon change. According to reports from The Daily Mail, Newcastle owner Jamie Reuben and Public Investment Fund (PIF) delegation met with Isak at his home in an attempt to convince him to remain at the club and return to Howe's squad, with a view to him playing against Leeds.

It's added that a new contract would be part of the talks, if Isak is committed to the club this season. Newcastle's preference has been to keep the former Borussia Dortmund man, despite Liverpool's interest.

Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was not part of the meeting but he's said to have given his full backing to the effort to bring Isak back into the squad as soon as possible. The Magpies are hoping that Isak can make himself available for the trip to Elland Road this weekend, as they look to record their first win of the season.

Speaking on Isak following Monday's 3-2 defeat against Liverpool, Newcastle head coach Howe said: "I've not been party to talks on this for a long time now... I've been preparing the team and giving all my energy to the players that want to play for Newcastle. I think that is where my energy is best put at the moment.

"We want clarity, we want to move forward, we want the narrative to change, because we're in the start of the season now. We're into the action and we've got to get results, and we have got to try to focus on what we can control. We've given two really, really good performances, we've ended up with one point.

"That's tough for us to take, especially in this moment where you're looking for positives to cling to. But we battle through and we now go on to Leeds."

Leeds, meanwhile, have collected three points from their first two games. They started their campaign with a 1-0 win against Everton last Monday, before then suffering a 5-0 defeat at Arsenal.
