From Spain: Real Madrid looking to sell Dani Ceballos before move for ‘Plan A’ Adam Wharton

Real Madrid are looking to sell Dani Ceballos this summer ahead of a move for Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton.

That’s [according to AS](https://as.com/futbol/primera/mercado-a-contrarreloj-n/), who say the Spanish side have their eye on the Crystal Palace midfielder and he is their Plan A when it comes to strengthening their midfield options.

The newspaper explains that Ceballos’ departure will trigger the search for a new midfielder, and the desired player is Wharton.

Xabi Alonso has made it clear that he wants a replacement if Ceballos departs and Wharton is the man he wants. The Spanish side had already planned to move for him if Rodrygo departed, using the funds from that for the deal, but now it is Ceballos who is departing.

A deal for the Crystal Palace star wouldn’t be a cheap one, though, with the Spanish believing €80m is the price. That’s almost certainly underestimating it.

The potential €15m from Ceballos’ departure would help with that.

[Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/real-madrid/wharton-brujula-busca-madrid-recuerda-120861013), meanwhile, report that Madrid are looking for a replacement for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos and the name that appears to be Alonso’s favourite is Wharton.

Indeed, they’ve gone to the effort of speaking to an English journalist about him to get the lowdown and detail how the Crystal Palace midfielder’s statistics are very favourable indeed.

They state that there is competition, potentially from Manchester United, but there is every possibility Real Madrid will drop a big sum at Selhurst Park this summer to satisfy Alonso’s demands if Ceballos departs.
