“Hopefully”–Manager goes public with desire to sign Manchester United player before deadline

Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has again made it clear publicly that he wants to see Antony return from Manchester United this summer.

[Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/betis/balones-fuera-con-fichaje-guido-rodriguez-dedos-cruzados-por-antony-20250826-509265.html) cover comments from the Betis manager today as he again made it clear that Betis need to do business.

Betis have had something of a frustrated summer as they’ve sought to improve Pellegrini’s squad, with seven arrivals so far but the big one, Antony, yet to happen.

He spent the second half of season on loan from Manchester United and the two parties have made it clear they want to reunite, but United have so far remained resistant to the Spanish side’s efforts to either secure another loan or a low-cost permanent transfer.

That has left everyone frustrated, with Pellegrini becoming more publicly clear with his wishes but not yet putting full pressure on the club.

That was again the case this week in pre-match press conference, with Estadio explaining that he ‘played a bit of a game-changer’ with his comments. He was again clear that he’d love to reunite with the Manchester United flop but put the focus on those above him to get it done.

_“We all know how important Antony was here last season. Let’s see if he can make it, hopefully,”_ he is quoted as saying.

_“I’m always talking to Manu (Fajardo, Betis DoF), looking at different alternatives; but, as I say, always keeping the financial aspect in mind. I can give him 10 names of players, but maybe they’re players who aren’t capable of making it._

_“So, taking all of that into account, the sporting director, the technical director, and the team leaders tried to put together the best squad possible.”_

Intriguingly, Pellegrini was today linked with Nottingham Forest by the Chilean media, it what could be an effort to pressure Betis into improving his squad.
