Crystal Palace near agreement with Arsenal for Dan Casey

Casey, who turns 18 on Sunday, rejected a professional contract at Arsenal – where he had been since pre-academy level – in search of a clearer pathway to first-team football.

The attacker, who is capable of playing across the front three or in the number ten, scored 20 goals and registered two assists in 24 appearances for Arsenal’s Under-18s last season, while also featuring three times for the Under-21s.

Palace see Casey as a direct replacement for Jesse Derry, who turned down a professional deal at Selhurst Park to join Chelsea.

Unlike the expectation with Casey, no agreement was reached over Derry’s move, meaning the fee will be set by a tribunal. Palace expect to receive a multi-million-pound sum.
