West Ham are on the lookout for more midfielders for Graham Potter’s squad before the transfer window closes next Monday.

The Hammers’ midfield was completely outworked on the opening day against Sunderland, and despite Potter dropping Guido Rodriguez in favour of Tomas Soucek for the Chelsea game, it made no difference in the outcome of the match.

Recent rumours suggested that Everton wanted to sign Soucek as David Moyes eyed a reunion with his former player. However, West Ham would like to keep the Czech Republic international at the London Stadium.

With the Hammers’ engine room evidently an issue, David Sullivan and Co. look to be eyeing up one of Nottingham Forest’s midfielders.

West Ham interested in Ibrahim Sangare from Nottingham Forest

Along with Sangare, Romano Schmid has again been linked with a move to East London, with the Werder Bremen midfielder earning comparisons to Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

Sangare would add that much-needed bite to West Ham’s midfield, and according to The Sun’s Jack Rosser on X on 26 August, the Hammers have approached Nottingham Forest over a loan deal for Sangare.

Sangare joined Forest from PSV back in 2023 for a fee of £30million

The midfielder has struggled with injuries and illness at times during his spell at Forest, contracting malaria whilst on international duty in November 2023

The 27-year-old has started both Premier League games so far this season

Rosser also suggests the proposal is a loan with a potential obligation to buy, but only if certain clauses are met.

Alan Shearer full of praise for West Ham-linked Ibrahim Sangare

Sangare’s performance against Bournemouth in August 2024 impressed Shearer when analysing the midfielder’s performance on Match of the Day.

“He had the most tackles, most interceptions and won possession more than anyone else,” the former England international said.

“He did everything in a simple way but a lot of it was effective. A lot of the things that Forest started came from tackles from him, with him protecting the back four.”

If the Hammers can keep Sangare fit, they will have a quality player on their hands.

Before Sangare switched PSV for Forest, the Ivory Coast international had attracted interest from a host of elite European clubs like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked with the midfielder in the past, and West Ham will be hoping he rediscovers the form that had these clubs initially interested in him.
