In a pulsating Premier League encounter at Anfield, Liverpool edged out Newcastle United 3-2 thanks to a 100th-minute winner from teenager Rio Ngumoha.
Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring with a sharp long range strik in the first half.
New signing Hugo Ekitike, their £79 million arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt, scored his third goal in three games for Liverpool with a lethal, cultured first-time finish to make it 2-0 after half-time.
He scored so sooner after the restart that Arne Slot hadn’t even entered the fray.
Newcastle United scored twice, including in the 87th minute to threaten the Reds perfect start to the season. However, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha rescued the win with a finish in the 100th minute that truly announced his arrival on the scene as a supertalent.
But, behind the scenes, a fight for Alexander Isak’services rages on.
Isak meets with Newcastle but Liverpool remains his goal asnd is still “fighting” to join Liverpool, he is “pushing”
According to Fabrizio Romano, it would appear as though the meeting that PIF and Newcastle had with Alexander Isak was unsuccessful and he still intends to move to Liverpool.

On Monday, before the game at St. James’ Park, it was reported that Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and a PIF delegation had a meeting with Isak at his home in a bid to convince him to stay on Tyneside.
The Daily Mail reported: “The club want the Swedish striker to return to training and playing for the Magpies after he went on strike in a bid to force a move to Liverpool. It is understood that a new contract would be part of discussions, if Isak committed himself to the club this season.”
They wanted to use the lure of a new mega contract to stay but the promise of a new deal has already been made and broken so it’s no suprise is not interested in discussing a new deal.
Newcastle are not willing to sell Isak under present circumstances, however, and until they make sales, it’s going to be tough for Liverpool to force a deal through.
But Romano has already reported that Liverpool plan to “attack” with a bid this week.
