Wolves have started with two defeats this season, and a fresh problem could already be emerging.
The 2025/26 season is shaping up to be a real challenge, with Wolves’ squad currently very underprepared.
There is going to be a push now in the final week of the transfer window for new players, but some fans aren’t optimistic, and feel a relegation battle is nailed on.
Wolves have lost many great players this summer.
And some have now questioned whether the squad has enough quality to stay in the Premier League.
Two players who are certainly Premier League standard are Andre and Joao Gomes.
They’re often head and shoulders above the rest, but so far this season they’ve been unable to help Wolves get off the mark in terms of points.
And it seems the form of the team may be affecting their international prospects.

Last night, the latest Brazil squad was released for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Bolivia.

But Carlo Ancelotti has not selected either of Wolves’ midfield duo this time around.
Ancelotti took the job back in May, and for his first squad for Brazil’s games against Ecuador and Paraguay in June, he also overlooked Andre and Gomes.

The midfielders the former Real Madrid boss has chosen this time around are Casemiro, Andrey Santos, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta.
The development will be disappointing for both players, and also perhaps slightly concerning going forwards.
Carlo Ancelotti’s latest decision is a concern for Andre, Gomes and Wolves
So far since taking the job, Ancelotti hasn’t really fancied Gomes or Andre.
Perhaps that’s understandable given the poor form in which Wolves finished the 2024/25 season. And that form has now carried over into the new campaign.
Andre – who Pereira left out against Bournemouth – and Gomes will likely both be disappointed with the news, and also somewhat concerned, with the World Cup taking place next year.

It’s no easy task getting called up to play for Brazil, so it’s important to be playing well and standing out. At the moment, that is tricky to do in Wolves’ team.
Ancelotti obviously has eyes on the Brazilian players in the Premier League and will have seen how both players have done recently, but neither have made a big enough impression lately.
If Andre and Gomes – who Marshall Munetsi has previously branded ‘really special’ – both end up failing to go to the World Cup next year, that might have implications for Wolves in terms of them staying long term, as they may feel they can boost their international prospects playing elsewhere.
