Man United to sell goalkeeper 'in next few days' amid Lammens talk

Manchester United will reportedly have to sell one of their goalkeepers if they sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

While the Red Devils have purchased three players for the final third, much has been made of failing to improve their situation between the sticks.

In recent days, it has been suggested that Lammens could soon be arriving at Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £17m.

Although the 23-year-old would not necessarily immediately become first choice, his arrival would only lead to further speculation regarding the current options in Ruben Amorim's squad.

How would Man United handle Lammens arrival?

According to Football Insider, Man United would look to sell either Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir over the coming days if Lammens finalises his move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Despite being number one for the last two seasons, Onana has been dropped from that role by Amorim with Altay Bayindir instead starting the opening two Premier League games of the season.

While the Turkey international has conceded just two goals in games against Arsenal and Fulham, the manner of Arsenal's effort in a 1-0 win at Old Trafford led to criticism and calls for a replacement.

With regards to Onana, though, Man United are struggling to attract suitable offers for a 29-year-old who cost over £50m.

As such, the suggestion is that Bayindir is more likely to be sold than the Cameroon international, even though he is currently in line to start against Burnley at the weekend.

The report suggests that Lammens, who only has 13 clean sheets from 68 appearances in his professional career, will initially become second choice to whoever remains out of Onana and Bayindir.

A scenario leading to Onana's recall?

United's need to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations and need for another central midfielder means that they have to be open to all scenarios.

Amorim has seemingly lost faith in Onana due to a number of mistakes made by the former Inter Milan star, yet he would plausibly get the nod over Lammens at this stage of their careers.

There are no guarantees that United will attract suitable offers for Bayindir, a player who has made just 13 appearances for United since the start of 2023-24.

However, with United paying just £4.3m for his signature, they have a chance of making a profit on the 27-year-old, unlike with Onana whose value has dropped.

Veteran Englishman Tom Heaton is expected to remain as third choice.
