West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing out-of-favour Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling in the final days of the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United are exploring a late loan move for Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling. The English international is unwanted at Chelsea, and they are looking to get rid of him.
The versatile attacker has not been at his best in recent seasons, and he was quite mediocre during his loan spell at Arsenal last season. The £300,000-a-week star needs to leave the club to play regularly, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to move to West Ham.
Joining the London club will allow him to continue in the Premier League and compete at a high level. Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that the idea of remaining in the Premier League appeals to Sterling.
West Ham need quality attacking options, and Sterling would be a superb option for them. The Englishman could be an asset for the club if he manages to recapture his form and confidence. There is no doubt that he used to be a world-class player during his time at Liverpool and Manchester City. The 30-year-old could transform the West Ham attack if he manages to get back to his best. Regular football might be able to unlock his confidence once again.
Sterling needs to move on
Raheem Sterling does not have a future at Chelsea, and sitting on the bench at the West London club is unlikely to benefit him. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and moving to West Ham makes a lot of sense. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are prepared to send him out on loan once again.
Ideally, Chelsea will look to sell him permanently since they do not view him as a part of their plans going forward, and therefore, sending him out on a temporary move does not make a lot of sense. However, Sterling’s £300,000-a-week wages have put Chelsea on the back foot. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.
West Ham are hoping to sign him on a bargain, and therefore, a loan move would be ideal for them. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can finalise an agreement in the coming weeks. West Ham have been quite disappointing this season, and they need to improve the squad in the remaining days of the window if they want to bounce back strongly.
