Teenager Rio Ngumoha scored a dramatic late winner as Liverpool best Newcastle United 3-2 in a thrilling game at St. James’ Park on Monday night.
The hosts had started strongly but were unable to find a breakthrough and instead fell behind when Ryan Gravenberch guided a low shot beyond Nick Pope.
Anthony Gordon was then sent off for a lunging challenge on Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk, with VAR intervening to overturn the initial yellow card that had been shown.
Moments after the restart, Hugo Ekitike continued his fine start to his Liverpool career by putting Arne Slot’s side 2-0 up, before Bruno Guimaraes halved the deficit.
Newcastle then drew themselves level courtesy of substitute William Osula, but 16-year-old Ngumoha secured all three points for the Premier League champions with a finely taken goal deep into added time.
Liverpool have had a busy summer in the transfer market with several players arriving on Merseyside.
Now, it appears that they are still in talks to sign an England international before the window closes.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are still in talks with Crystal Palace about a move for defender Marc Guehi.

Romano claims that the Merseyside giants remain in talks and are hopeful of agreeing a deal for the England international prior to the end of the current transfer window.
Guehi, 25, is said to be keen on the idea of a move to Anfield, with the Reds likely to attempt to sign him when his contract expires next summer if they fail to agree a deal this year.
Having joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021, the centre-back has now played more than 150 times for the Eagle across all competitions.
He is now Palace’s club captain, and is also a regular for England having been capped 23 times by the Three Lions at senior level.
