West Ham’s recruitment over the years has taken a bit of a nosedive as they continue to struggle in the Premier League.
Last summer’s transfer window was a disaster as West Ham captured Jean-Clair Todibo on loan with an obligation to buy.
Todibo and fellow signing Niclas Fullkrug have so far been poor and have been a reflection of some of the money the Hammers have wasted in recent years.
West Ham’s poor transfer strategy has extended beyond this summer, with former manager David Moyes making mistakes of his own.

Danny Ings set for Sheffield United move
West Ham’s struggles in the transfer window have carried on into this summer, with El Hadji Malick Diouf and Mads Hermansen the only players of note who have signed.

Lucas Paqueta appears to be on his way out, which continues to leave them short in midfield.
However, for players who have already left East London, things appear to be going well.
Danny Ings departed as a free agent in the summer and appears to have found himself a new home with Championship promotion chasers Sheffield United.

Ings only managed 10 goal contributions at West Ham
The striker had a torrid time at the London Stadium, which was marred by injuries.
Ings was on the brink of joining Middlesbrough earlier in the summer but the Reds elected to move on to other targets.
According to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam, the 33-year-old is having a medical with Sheffield United today, and the deal could be completed this week.
The striker was signed by David Moyes in January 2023 to score goals, with the former Hammers manager a big fan of the striker.
David Moyes said Danny Ings is ‘as good as it gets’
Ings was brought in with the Hammers facing the threat of relegation and needing goals quickly.
Speaking after signing the striker, Moyes said: “We need someone who knows the league, and we’ve been linked with a few players and we’ve had a look at a few players to try and bring in to strengthen.
“But I wanted to bring somebody in who wasn’t a risk as far as knowing the league, someone who knew how to score and has scored.
Ings has scored 125 goals in 419 appearances
Just five of them came for West Ham
“So I think Danny Ings is as good as it gets, and to be fair, at this time of the year it’s not easy to pick up centre-forwards. So, we’re really pleased to have him, he’s already settled in quite well this morning. We’re really pleased to get him.”
The 33-year-old struggled to get going at the London Stadium and found himself in and out of the side, but now seems to have landed on his feet.
You would have thought West Ham had learned from signing old strikers who are passed their best, but the recent signing of Callum Wilson shows they haven’t.
