Wrexham are preparing to take on Preston North End in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Wrexham’s only victory of the season so far came in the first round clash against Hull City, although it took late heroics from Ollie Palmer and a penalty shoot-out to progress.
Phil Parkinson will view the game as a welcome distraction from the disappointing start to the Championship campaign and is expected to make a number of changes to his starting XI.
Despite Wrexham’s winless start in the league, they currently top the spending table in the second tier. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s record-breaking spending spree would be at home in the Premier League.

Wrexham have spent more than Crystal Palace and Fulham during this transfer window
Wrexham’s owners vowed to be ‘aggressive’ this transfer window and they have kept to that promise after smashing the club’s record spending.
Nathan Broadhead became the club’s record signing in a £10m deal from Ipswich and was the third time that the Red Dragons broke their transfer record this summer.
Wrexham have also paid £8m to sign defender Callum Doyle and have outspent two Premier League clubs so far.

The Red Dragons have outspent the likes of Crystal Palace and Fulham by over £20m in a real statement of intent to compete in the Championship before eventually looking to reach the top flight.
Liverpool’s £293m outlay is an indication of just how far Wrexham have to go before they can even dream of the Premier League, however, nobody can deny their ambition shown this summer.
Wrexham’s spending is set to continue before transfer deadline
Parkinson is not done yet in terms of building his squad for the upcoming campaign and results have shown there are still gaps to plug.
Midfield is an area of concern and Wrexham have bids for three midfielders on the table, including Southampton’s Will Smallbone.

Jordan James was left out of the Stade Rennais squad in their latest game as the Welsh international is subject to a bid from Wrexham.
It remains to be seen how many more faces come through the door before the September 1st deadline, but what can be assured is that the Red Dragons will not hold back in going for what they want.
