Bruno Fernandes has revealed the real reason behind his penalty miss during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham. He puts light on a bizarre incident in the first half.
Fernandes opens up on his penalty moment
**Manchester United**’s search for a first league win under Ruben Amorim dragged on as they were held by Fulham. The visitors surged ahead as Rodrigo Muniz had them ahead with an own goal. Moments later Emile Smith Rowe pulled one back.
Nevertheless, the biggest talking point was when Bruno Fernandes missed the penalty sending it over the bar. The midfielder explained that just prior to taking the penalty, referee Chris Kavanagh disrupted him by interference, and sent him out of his normal routine. That the referee had made contact with him, and did not even apologize. That threw him off and ruining his concentration.

Pressure builds on United
Fernandes accepted he was irritated with Kavanagh for not recognizing the incident. But, he shared some of the weight by saying that he mistimed the strike on the ball. Trouble was already mounting for the United club after a poor start to the campaign.
It will strictly get worse from here with Burnley next up. Fernandes recognizes his error. It is a sign of leadership again in how he dealt with the incident. It shows a leader that still takes responsibility when at fault.
The Red Devils are still waiting to get the first win this season. Amorim will likely make changes to his squad for the next game. Benjamin Sesko is expected to part of the starting XI next weekend.
Author’s Opinion
Fernandes maybe blamed the aspect of what Kavanagh put on his end. But, top players will be judged on how they deal with the difficulties. The player is still United’s heartbeat. Fans expect a lot from their skipper in times like these.
