Confirmation from Newcastle United is required, but the wife of Joelinton has claimed his injury isn’t serious.
Releasing a written message on social media on Tuesday afternoon, her suggestion is that the Brazilian will be back sooner rather than later.
And, if correct, that will come as a major relief for the Magpies, who were left fearing the worst when Joelinton went down in agony during the second half of the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night.
The 29-year-old left the St James’ Park pitch visibly upset. Eddie Howe confirmed after the game that it was an abductor issue, adding that it “doesn’t look good”.
Joelinton’s wife Thays Gondim issues promising update
But the news appears to be better than first feared, following an update from his wife, Thays.
She suggests that Joelinton will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Leeds United and Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia, but could be back for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers to St James’ Park after the international.
Thays wrote on Instagram: “The selection has arrived, to make us dream! He's worked so hard! Very much! Like a warrior, for his purpose...But the end goal has not yet come and we'll be there, because I trust the God who transforms lives and destinies.

“Today we are out of the Brazilian national team due to an injury. An injury that came after a great football match, of a player who honors his club shirt. But he'll come back stronger! For Newcastle and the Brazilian National Team - because God's plan is greater than ours! Thanks for all the support.
Today I choose not to be this strong... I chose to cry, even without understanding. But I know that the light at the end of the tunnel comes from our Father who made all things. Got more than we dreamed, more than we deserved...Always together! We love you, our warrior!
“And to answer everyone together, it's not serious! It's nothing to do with surgery! Muscular injury and he will be 100% in a few days, unfortunately not in time to go defend the Brazilian National Team!”
While Thays’ words are promising, it’s best to wait for confirmation from the football club before getting excited. That’ll likely come on Friday when Howe speaks to the media ahead of facing Leeds.
Newcastle United also set to provide Sandro Tonali update
Supporters will also be hoping to hear positive news on Sandro Tonali after he too was forced off against Liverpool with what appeared to be a shoulder issue.
As it stands, the Magpies are at risk of being without four senior players for the visit to Elland Road, with Anthony Gordon serving a three-match ban and Fabian Schar going off with a concussion.

“They're genuine injuries that come up in the middle of the game, and that would be a huge blow to us,” Howe said. “Joey doesn't look great, to be honest, especially when the signal was so early when he went down.
“Sandro, again doesn’t look good, couldn't move his arm. He said he wanted to stay on, but he wasn't functioning properly. Obviously, we lose Anthony through suspension and Fabian through a concussion.”
