West Ham United are among the clubs to have held talks over a surprising late swoop for Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to reports. Onana's status in Ruben Amorim's plans is up in the air after his exclusion from the first two matches of the Premier League season.
The Cameroonian was absent from the campaign's curtain-raiser against Arsenal at Old Trafford, having only taken part in three training sessions after returning from a hamstring injury. But while he travelled to Fulham on Sunday, Amorim stuck with Altay Bayindir, despite an unconvincing showing in the 1-0 defeat to the Gunners.
The decision was eye-catching, considering how heavily favoured Onana has been with Amorim and Erik ten Hag since his £47million arrival from Inter Milan in 2023.
Meanwhile, in the background, United have accelerated their pursuit of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens ahead of the summer transfer deadline.
The 23-year-old is expected to join in a deal worth at least £17m and could quickly establish himself as Amorim's long-term No. 1.
According to United In Focus, the recent events have not gone down well with Onana, who is now seeking an escape route before 7pm on September 1.

It's claimed that the Red Devils' No. 24 understood his exclusion against Arsenal, given his recent return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
However, Onana and a number of his teammates were said to have been shocked by Amorim's brutal decision to make him watch the 1-1 draw against Fulham from the bench.
The 29-year-old's stance on his future has subsequently changed, and he is now ready to quit Old Trafford after two testing years.
The report adds that while West Ham have already signed Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen in a £20m deal this summer, Graham Potter wants an alternative option.

Whether that's, in part, down to the Hammers' disastrous start to the season remains to be seen, but it has not been pretty.
Potter's side lost 3-0 at newly-promoted club Sunderland on the opening weekend before suffering a 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Chelsea last time out.
The mood could not be lower at the London Stadium, but further transfer business is still possible before the window slams shut.
