Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes has expressed the squad's desire for a swift resolution to Alexander Isak's ongoing transfer saga, as the forward continues to force a move to Liverpool.

Isak has yet to make an appearance for Eddie Howe's team this season after opting out of pre-season training with his teammates and instead training solo throughout the summer.

The striker has since issued a statement accusing the Newcastle management of "broken promises", a claim which the club's hierarchy has vehemently denied, stating they made no assurances that he would be sold during this transfer window.

Liverpool have already had a £110million offer for the Sweden international turned down, with Newcastle reportedly holding out for a valuation closer to £150m.

Amidst the transfer drama, Newcastle hosted Liverpool at St James' Park on Monday night, only to suffer a last-minute 3-2 defeat courtesy of teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha's dramatic winning goal.

Post-match, Guimaraes revealed he hadn't spoken to Isak about the situation but urged the club to bring the saga to a close so the team can concentrate on the upcoming season.

He acknowledged the team were "really missing" Isak, who netted 27 goals last season and spearheaded their Carabao Cup victory, and admitted they were "feeling his absence".

Guimaraes told ESPN Brasil following the loss to Liverpool: "I haven't had any contact with him. We've been training in the mornings, and he trains at a different time, when no one from the team is around.

"As captain, and for us as players, it's a tough situation because we want to have the best players with us. But that's something we can't control - the club, the management, the owners are dealing with it, and I hope it gets sorted out in the best way.

"We're really missing our striker, a player who scored more than 20 goals in the Premier League last season, so of course he's someone we feel the absence of. We hope to have our best player back, but unfortunately this is a situation that neither I nor any other player can control."

The Magpies have been exploring various alternatives to Isak whilst seeking to recruit a new striker, with the ongoing saga showing little sign of resolution. There's no certainty that Isak will rejoin the squad even if he remains beyond the transfer deadline.

Newcastle have reportedly seen a £50m offer turned down for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, marking their most recent disappointment in pursuit of attacking reinforcements. They were beaten by Liverpool in the race for Hugo Ekitike's signature and have also seen two approaches for Brentford's Yoane Wissa rejected.
