The New York Knicks find themselves in an enviable position this offseason. With championship expectations soaring after their first conference finals appearance in 25 years, the front office has strategically added depth pieces like Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. But that doesn’t mean they’re finished making moves to strengthen their title window.

Enter Ben Simmons — the three-time All-Star and former No. 1 overall pick who’s weighing his options in free agency. According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks continue to show “strong interest” in Simmons, keeping them firmly in the mix for his services.

Knicks Eye Final Roster Piece

New York sits just under the $207.8 million salary cap threshold. They have room for a veteran minimum contract. And a rookie deal. That flexibility creates an ideal setup for a Simmons signing.

Simmons averaged 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists last season across stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers. His offensive numbers continue to underwhelm, but his defensive pedigree and size-driven playmaking still make him an intriguing option for the Knicks.

In Mike Brown’s system, Simmons would not be expected to carry a major offensive load. Instead, he’d be tasked with guarding multiple positions and serving as a secondary playmaker — roles that better fit his current strengths.

He could also provide much-needed relief for Jalen Brunson, who carried a massive offensive burden during New York’s postseason run. While Clarkson adds instant scoring, Simmons brings a contrasting skill set based on vision, transition play, and defensive versatility.

Kings, Warriors, Cavaliers Circling

Simmons has no shortage of suitors. According to Brett Siegel, the Sacramento Kings and Knicks are “known suitors,” with the Boston Celtics also previously in the mix. Siegel added that Simmons might be “holding out to see if any of these other situations create an opening” — including the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Still, the Knicks’ combination of championship timeline, system fit, and financial flexibility makes them one of the strongest contenders.

Knicks and Kings are known suitors for Simmons. Celtics have obviously been in that mix as well.

I wouldn't be shocked if Simmons is holding out to see if any of these other situations create an opening for him — teams like Golden State, Atlanta, and Cleveland. https://t.co/GyZ51zAIeO

What Comes Next for the Knicks?

With training camp approaching. And multiple teams circling. Simmons’ next move is under the microscope. For the Knicks, adding a versatile defender and playmaker represents the type of low-risk. High-upside bet. The kind that could pay dividends in the playoffs.

If Simmons can regain even flashes of his former All-Star form. This could be remembered as one of the savviest offseason moves in the league.
