Sheffield United are in talks with former West Ham United striker Danny Ings with a medical set to take place today, according to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam.
Sheffield United have struggled heavily in the early days of Ruben Selles’ tenure at the club. SUFC are yet to pick up a point after three league games and have only scored one league goal so far.
In a bid to address some of the issues that have been raised after their poor start to the season, Selles is looking to add Danny Ings to his attacking options at Bramall Lane.

After becoming a free agent following his departure from West Ham United, Ings has been one of several free agents training with the club. In an effort to add more experience to his struggling side, the likes of Ben Mee and Nathan Redmond have also joined up with the squad in training – but SUFC looked to have acted first to add Ings to their squad.

Sheffield United moving fast to address poor start to the season
With the heat already starting to rise amongst Sheffield United fans after such a concerning start to the season, it looks set to be a busy end to the transfer window for the Blades.
After adding to their defensive options with the arrival of Nils Zatterstrom from Malmo and Ben Godfrey on loan, Japhet Tanganga is expected to join this week with a £10m move from Millwall close.

There will be immediate pressure on Selles to begin to turn around their fortunes in the Championship. Excuses will be hard to find after seeing a depleted defence shored up by several impressive acquisitions to see their struggles continue.

Danny Ings move a risk with fitness struggles
There’s no doubting that at Championship level, Danny Ings will still be amongst the deadliest finishers in the division. This will be his first season in the second-tier since firing Burnley to promotion in the 2013/14 campaign, scoring 20 goals.
However, if he is to be a success at Bramall Lane, the 33-year-old will need a change of fortune regarding his fitness.
Ings failed to make more than 20 Premier League appearances during his three seasons at West Ham United and has not done so since the 2021/22 campaign – his first season at Aston Villa.

He will be joining Tyrese Campbell, Tom Cannon and Ryan One as centre forward options for Sheffield United. With Selles regularly opting to play with a lone number nine up front, this may help with managing Ings’ fitness throughout the campaign – but there will be question marks over whether or not he will be able to contribute for SUFC on a regular basis.
