Ex-Michigan State defensive lineman Mike Panasiuk has been waived by the New Orleans Saints as part of roster cuts on Monday.
NFL teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. to shrink their rosters down to 53 members and Panasiuk, who made the transition to offensive line after turning professional, was part of the first round of cuts.
After joining the Spartans in 2016 out of high school, Panasiuk quickly became a mainstay along the D-line, playing in all 12 games as a true freshman.
Over four years, Panasiuk played 51 games with 100 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions, including one as a pick six.
Panasiuk was an All-Big Ten teamer in his final two seasons before going undrafted in 2020 and signing as a free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders.
After getting cut before the season, Panasiuk spent most of 2020 and 2021 on the Carolina Panthers practice squad.
Between training camp stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Saints over the next few years, Panasiuk became a regular top offensive lineman for the XFL and UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks.
He’s made the All-XFL and All-UFL teams in each of his three seasons playing spring football.
Panasiuk will hope a team brings him on to their practice squad over the coming days or will likely see the 27-year-old make his way back to spring football, where he’s regularly one of the best competitors on the field.
