Keep track of the Saints as they cut down to 53 players prior to Tuesday's deadline

The New Orleans Saints began trimming their roster Monday morning, waiving or releasing 14 players, and they've continued the process Tuesday.

The first reported move out of the Saints facility in Metairie was somewhat of a surprise, with the team waiving tight end Treyton Welch after a strong close to the preseason.

But the biggest early move came when the Saints parted ways with 2023 second round pick Isaiah Foskey, a player who had never delivered on his draft position since the Saints selected him out of Notre Dame.

New Orleans will have to make more than 20 moves Tuesday prior to the 3 p.m. deadline, though the exact number is a little up in the air: Injured players can also either go on injured reserve, or in Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill's case, stay on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Here are the Saints moves, as they happen.

TE Treyton Welch (source)

Welch came on strong late in training camp and preseason, leading all Saints tight ends in the preseason with six catches for 65 yards.

DE Isaiah Foskey (source)

The Saints selected Foskey in the second round of the 2023 draft, but in 27 NFL games, the defensive end recorded 0 sacks and 0 quarterback hits, according to Pro Football Reference. He also did not appear to be a good fit for the new defensive scheme.

WR Kevin Austin (ESPN)

One of the few receivers on the roster with some size (6-2, 200), Austin has had some promising moments with the Saints — including some in regular season games — but was clearly on the outside looking in in the receiver corps.

To injured reserve

DT John Ridgeway (source)

Ridgeway injured his pectoral muscle in the Saints' second preseason game, but is reportedly expected to return during the earlier portiono f the season.
