SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — An 8th Grader makes his case for safety gear at football practice. Edison Middle School student, Grant Hohn, told school board members last night he was recently blocked from wearing a Guardian Cap, a protective shield that goes over a helmet. Grant Hohn says he loves football, but wants to do all he can to be safe. Grant’s father David also spoke to the board, saying the coach’s claim the Guardian Cap could void the helmet warranty doesn’t hold up. He quoted a statement from Guardian that there hasn’t been a single case of a helmet warranty being made void by use of the Guardian Cap. He noted that Guardian Caps are mandatory for practices in the NFL, which has reported a 50-percent drop in concussions since going to the cap.
