Alexander Isak is keen on a move to Liverpool

Newcastle United's wantaway striker Alexander Isak has reportedly informed the club that he remains intent on a move to Liverpool, following crucial talks with the club's top chiefs.

The Swedish forward has previously criticised the club's management for "broken promises" regarding his future. And on Monday, he sat down with key figures in an attempt to resolve the ongoing transfer drama.

Isak has been absent from Newcastle's training sessions this summer, having declined to join their pre-season tour of Asia. He has continued to distance himself from Eddie Howe's squad since the start of the season.

As per the Telegraph, Isak is adamant about continuing his strike until he secures his desired move to Anfield.

Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and a group of Public Investment Fund leaders, including co-owner Jamie Reuben, met with Isak at his home this week.

The duo entered the meeting hoping to negotiate a deal that would see Isak rejoin the squad. However, they were unable to make any headway in their efforts to reintegrate him into the team, according to the report.

It adds that Isak has vowed to stay on strike until he is granted an exit from St James' Park or the transfer window shuts.

The transfer window deadline is only six days away and time is quickly running out. However, Liverpool are said to be reading a second offer after their opening £110million bid was rejected.

It remains to be seen whether a late bid will tempt Newcastle to the table, given Isak remains intent on his decision to leave the north-east.

The final decision will ultimately be made by the majority shareholders, Saudi Arabia's PIF, of which Al-Rumayyan is the most senior figure.

Meanwhile, manager Eddie Howe and club captain Bruno Guimaraes have both called for the board to bring clarity to the situation.
